So, I'm not really going to bother with a list of happy things that happened this weekend 'cause there's just too many to mention. Instead, here's a summary of what all went on this weekend so that you can all get a glimpse of the wonderful things that have been happening in my life.
On Friday I left work and went to pick up Steve as planned, though earlier than either of us had estimated. We got groceries and then we were on our way to Manitoulin. After stopping in Barrie for dinner, we continued to the island, totaling somewhere around 7.5 hours of driving. We got there at 1am on Saturday, and went straight to bed after unpacking.
On Saturday, we had breakfast and wandered around the bush looking for signs of wildlife. We didn't really see anything of note, but we enjoyed exploring anyhow. I got a text from Stephanie and we headed to my grandparents' house where we gathered Steph and walked across the highway to the lake. We met Hannah and some of her friends and spent the afternoon swimming. I had lots of fun, but we ended up tiring Steve out so after we got icecream with Steph, he and I headed back to the camp where Steve napped while I prepared things for dinner. We cooked when Steve got up and ate before setting out to build a campfire. Both of us were pretty tired though, so we soon went to sleep.
On Sunday when we finally woke up it had started raining and I thought my plan of a trip to the Cup and Saucer had been foiled. Instead, Steve and I grabbed towels to leave in the car and set out for a 2.5 hour hike over steep rock cliffs, slippery with rain. It was lots of fun and there were some beautiful sights to see. On our way back to the hunt camp, we stopped at a small bakery/restaurant that we'd seen advertised on the side of the road and picked up some desserts.
Upon arriving at the camp, we settled into PJs and grabbed tea and books to read and peanut butter marshmallow squares to munch on. Eventually we got around to making steak and mushrooms for dinner, and then settled down with tea and cake and books before bed.
Monday was pretty uneventful. We packed everything up, made sure that everything was put back where it belonged, and headed for home. On the way we saw a baby bear! We agreed that we'd like to take him home, and were otherwise mostly bored. It took us almost 8 hours to get back to Toronto, and then I had an hour drive back home, so I hung around for dinner and general hanging out.
Overall an awesome weekend filled with fun things and yummy food and great company, even if everyone else bailed on us. *glares*
